Thank you to everyone for attending our spring potluck last week. We enjoyed welcoming you back to our classroom community. The second graders were eager to share some of their learning with all of you. We hope you enjoyed viewing the Cookie mazes and reading our insect nonfiction books. We appreciated all the delicious food you brought to share!
The Cookie mazes were a big success! Cookie has been quite entertained exploring her new obstacle courses. She has been spending time jumping, running, chewing, and even sleeping in the mazes! We wrote about the mazes and posted our writing to Seesaw. We hope you enjoyed reading about them!
The second graders did a "Hat Walk" on Monday. They wore their hats around ESH and to the Historic Campus. It was fun to be welcomed by the big kids!
We had our summer birthday picnic last Friday. We sang, listened to a story, and had plenty of treats all on a beautiful day in Jackson Park. Thank you to the parents who came to celebrate their children's summer birthdays.
This week your second grader has taken home art work and school work. Included in the school work bag were two important portfolios. One was a Reflection Journal. This journal has reflection pieces that the children wrote throughout the school year on various topics. It is amazing to see how their writing and the depth of their ideas have grown as the school year has progressed. Another portfolio is a snapshot of the some of the writing we have done in the classroom. It includes various pieces of writing including letters, a story, and the Living Statue gallery speech, to name a few. Hopefully this is a book you will treasure for a long time and help your son or daughter remember second grade. Please take the time to look through both of these books. Your child worked hard on them. Enjoy!
A huge thank you to our class room parents this year! Dora Shih, Matt Konda, Sharon Hillenbrand, Brandi Kenner-Bell, and Vanessa Copans have been a big help to us in many ways. We truly appreciate all of your dedication and generosity! I would also like to thank the many parents who helped with Kids in the Kitchen, who brought Cookie kale to eat, and the many other things you have done to help us out this year. We wish you a wonderful, restful, and fun-filled summer!
Summer is a time for children to play outside, be with friends and family, go to camp, and travel. I hope you and your children have a wonderful summer! Please make sure your child continues to read everyday. The Lim Family Library posted a summer reading list which you can access here. Raz Kids will be available until the end of August so that continues to be an option. If you need to get connected to that again, please let me know. You can also refer to the previous newsletter for a list of good apps to try at home.
